I have stayed in a 5 star hotel in Dubai prior to my trip to SA so my standards for any hotel I was to stay in following that were always going to be either at par or beyond my experience in Dubai. I was therefore initially somewhat apprehensive about Protea prior to arriving and following reassurance from my Brother in Law to be, I agreed to book a family room in the Protea for 6 nights. I must admit that I was shell shocked with the excellent milieu of the hotel upon arrival, both outside and inside. There was a young lad who was often the concierge during the day and he was the most lovely of all people at the hotel as he always made me and my family comfortable by interacting with us each time he saw us as well as gave us advice about the local area and Joburg. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis, with new bedding and linen provided which was always fresh. Whilst we experienced load shedding (which is the norm in SA) it was only for a few minutes before the power switched back on. The hotel is a very secure place, which is always a major factor to consider for foreign visitors and my family's safety was rest assured during our entire stay. It was useful to have amenities such as the spar, gym and the pool as we were travelling as a family consisting of a 10yr old and a teenager who is into his fitness. The food was generally great, especially the breakfast and I will most certainly recommend the omelette that is freshly prepared by the young man (can't remember his name) who was behind the serving counter on most days.

The staff are phenomenal! Have never been anywhere where ALL the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. We had been given a different room to the one we had booked, and they immediately sorted it out, found us another, and gave us an upgraded room. When we called room service, our phone was giving issues, so the lady in room Service reported it on her own accord. They immediately came and replaced the phone. Spotless rooms, substantial servings of delicious food, it is the ideal spot in Midrand. We can not commend the staff enough from the Reception to the Room Service, Technical, Security at the gate, Restaurant and Wait Staff they were incredible. The only place we will stay in Midrand from now on.

From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with welcoming smiles and a genuine willingness to assist with anything you need. The Protea Hotel Midrand team is always happy to help. This focus on hospitality makes all the difference. While the hotel prioritizes comfort and functionality over luxury, the exceptional service creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Protea Hotel Midrand is ideal for travelers who value friendly interactions and a comfortable base to explore the area.

It is a very cozy place exactly what I like, breakfast was delicious. I arrived very very early in the morning but the person who was at the reception quickly got me a room and I took a very hot shower and jumped into a bed with white crispy sheets, it was divine.

The breakfast had great variety and the staff was very friendly. The manager personally made sure everything was always OK. The upkeep on the premises was pretty good and everything was pristine clean.
